May 3, 2024, represented both endings and beginnings for the U of M’s fourth-year medical students as they officially graduated from Medical School, marking a significant milestone in their lives. The commencement ceremony began with remarks from notable faculty members, including Dean of the Medical School, Dr. Jakub Tolar, Interim U of M President, Jeffrey Ettinger, and Vice Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Dr. Ana Nuñez. Dr. Rahel Nardos, director of Global Women’s Health, gave the keynote address.

240 students proudly walked the stage at Northrop Auditorium in front of their peers, mentors, and families. Of these students, 233 are poised to begin their residencies this summer, demonstrating their readiness to advance their skills in the healthcare field. Notably, nearly half of the Medical School’s graduates, 47.6%, have chosen to stay within Minnesota for their residency programs, underscoring the strong ties and commitment to serving Minnesotans.
