Celebrating Two Colleagues at the Dean's Distinguished Research Lecture
On Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 4 p.m., we gathered virtually to celebrate distinguished faculty members in our community.
First, we recognize two leading neuroscientists who have contributed so much to the field and to our school: Damien Fair, PA-C, PhD, and Kamil Ugurbil, PhD:
Dr. Fair is the Redleaf Endowed Director of the Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain (MIDB), where his research focus is on mechanisms and principles that underlie the developing brain using function MRIU and functional connectivity MRI to assess typical and atypical populations of children. He uses these MRI techniques in translational studies of developmental neuropsychiatric disorders like attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and autism to guide future diagnostic, therapeutic, and genetic studies.
Dr. Ugurbil currently holds the McKnight Presidential Endowed Chair Professorship in Radiology, Neurosciences, and Medicine and is the Director of the Center for Magnetic Resonance Research (CMRR) at the University of Minnesota. His laboratory led the way to development of functional MRI. He and his colleagues have several unique accomplishments, such as the first-time imaging of orientation columns in the human primary visual cortex, as well as numerous new instrumentation and image acquisition approaches for functional and anatomical neuroimaging at very high magnetic fields.
During the event, we also celebrated the work of these two outstanding faculty colleagues, as well as those faculty with more than 1,000 publication citations who will be honored on the Medical School Wall of Scholarship this year, including:
