Celebrating Women’s History Month: Dr. Rahel Nardos & Other Highlights

This month, the University of Minnesota Medical School is shining extra light on the women of the past, present and future whose vision and passion positively impacts the field of medicine every day.

Rahel Nardos

One of those women is Rahel Nardos, MD, MCR, who joined the Medical School last year as an associate professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women’s Health. She is a urogynecologist and serves as director for Global Women's Health for the U of M Office of Academic Clinical Affairs’ Center for Global Health and Social Responsibility (CGHSR). Dr Nardos is a humble collaborator focused on elevating the health of women in underserved communities. Driven to make a meaningful difference by leveraging her unique worldview and life experience as an immigrant, she harnesses the collective wisdom and passion of both local and global communities so that quality and affordable healthcare is accessible to every woman, irrespective of the lottery of her birthplace.

Dr. Nardos discusses the state of maternal health globally using obstetric fistula as a window into the vast inequities in maternal outcomes at this month’s Medical School Dean’s Lecture Series “Obstetric Fistula: A Window into Disparities in Women's Health and A Call for Reimagining Global Health Engagements” (watch recording). She highlights the structural and social determinants of disparities in maternal health and puts forth a call-to-action for meaningful and impactful engagement.
