Clarence Shannon, MD, Named Associate Dean of Strategy and Innovation

Today, I am very excited to announce that Clarence Shannon, MD, has accepted the role of Associate Dean of Strategy and Innovation of the Medical School effective immediately.

In this role, Dr. Shannon will manage a broad portfolio of efforts in the Medical School to position us on the leading edge of changes in healthcare. He will serve as our lead connection to industry, health systems, and corporate leaders, in order to determine and develop new opportunities in research and clinical programming. As a member of the Dean’s leadership team, he will collaborate closely with department heads and stakeholders across the Medical School while developing partnerships with other colleges and units. Dr. Shannon will continue his role on the M Physicians Practice Management Council.

Since joining the Medical School in 2017 as assistant professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, Dr. Shannon has demonstrated excellence as a clinician, teacher, mentor, and researcher. His leadership as Executive Medical Director of Pain Management has resulted in a comprehensive care model that is transforming treatment for patients seeking relief from chronic pain while dramatically reducing the reliance on opioids. He received his medical degree from the Pritzker School of Medicine, followed by a residency in Health Science Center in Brooklyn, State University of New York, and a fellowship in pain medicine at Emory University Affiliated Hospitals in Atlanta.

I look forward to working with Dr. Shannon in this important role, and I am confident he will bring the passion, energy, and ideas we need to drive strategic innovation throughout our organization.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Shannon on his new role and wishing him much success.
