On Saturday, August 25, nearly 600 former patients, families, physicians and community members gathered at TCF Bank Stadium for the annual Climb 4 Kidney Cancer event.

Participants were challenged to climb a total of 6,054 stairs in the Gopher’s stadium. This exercise aimed not only to promote wellness, which is connected to cancer prevention and survival, but also to raise money for research scholarships in order to support the bright young minds who are helping fight kidney cancer at the University of Minnesota.

“Though one of the most lethal of all cancers, kidney cancer remains significantly underfunded compared to many other cancers and we need your help to fix this. Working together, we can help the 300,000+ people worldwide who are diagnosed by this terrible disease each year,” said Dr. Christopher Weight, Associate Professor in the Department of Urology at the University of Minnesota Medical School.

This year, the event raised approximately $50,000-- all of which goes directly towards kidney cancer research at the University of Minnesota. The event is hosted by Climb 4 Kidney Cancer, a division of TeaM8, the Masonic Cancer Center and Institute for Prostate and Urologic Cancers at the University of Minnesota Health.
