In a study never been done before, Dr. Erin Krebs set out to compare opioids with nonopioids for treating serious chronic pain. The results were groundbreaking. Of the patients in the study, those given nonopioid drugs did just as well, if not better in terms of the amount of pain they felt in their daily life.

When asked by Scientific American why this type of study had never been done before Dr. Krebs suggested, “At some level, physicians, as well as the general public, were willing to believe we don't need studies to show us that these drugs work.”
