Dr. Jakub Tolar, Executive Vice Dean, will be speaking at the New York Academy of Sciences for their one-day symposium, Gene Therapy for Rare Diseases. Many life-threatening rare diseases are due to a single gene mutation. Often, there are no effective treatment options, and affected children require constant, life-long, expensive care. Gene therapy shows promise as a clinical strategy for these disorders, and work is in progress to address the challenges of delivering safe, consistent, and durable gene therapy to targeted tissues. This symposium will explore recent advances, identify remaining issues to be addressed, and explore opportunities for the application of gene therapy to more common diseases.
