The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Minnesota Medical School integrates research and education into the comprehensive, patient-centered care provided in the clinical setting through our joint clinical enterprise, M Health Fairview. This commitment to excellence has been recognized, as the M Health Fairview Acute Rehabilitation Center was ranked #1 again in the Midwest by Newsweek/Statista for 2024.

According to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, more than 1,100 Physical Rehabilitation facilities are in the United States. To assist the public in finding the best care or facility for their needs, Newsweek partnered with data intelligence platform Statista to rank America's Best Physical Rehabilitation Centers. The annual list, now in its fifth edition, awards the nation's top 300 inpatient physical rehabilitation facilities. Each center was assigned a score based on quality metrics, accreditation data, a national survey of industry experts, and Google reviews from patients.

The list also includes a detailed snapshot sorted by geographic area. The 25 states with the most facilities were ranked individually, and facilities from the remaining states were grouped into four regions. In the Midwest, which included Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota, the M Health Fairview Acute Rehabilitation Center was ranked highest among the ten centers in the region.

For 70+ years, the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine has set a gold standard for physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) care, education, and research, supported by its mission of improving patients' quality of life.

Physician faculty from the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine provide care at the M Health Fairview Acute Rehabilitation Center, which attributes its patient care success to its "whole person" approach, practiced in the hospital and the clinic. The center serves cutting-edge clinics in wound care, movement disorders, spine care, pediatric rehabilitation, cancer rehabilitation, and COVID-19 rehabilitation.

Congratulations to the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine for its unwavering commitment to excellence!
