Our Maternal-Fetal Medicine program in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women's Health has been awarded ultrasound practice accreditation from the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) for three OB trimester-specific categories as well as the new category of Adjunct Detailed Fetal Anatomy. To recieve accreditation, programs must show competency in:

    • Personnel education, training, and experience
    • Document storage and record keeping
    • Policies and procedures safeguarding patients, ultrasound personnel, and equipment
    • Instrumentation
    • Quality assurance
    • Case studies

"There are only two health system practices in Minnesota currently certified in all these categories.  Certification requires significant, ongoing continuing education for physicians reading ultrasounds, sonographers performing the exams, and submission of images for review by AIUM experts.  All Fairview sites have maintained certification without fail since receiving their initial certification in 2005" stated Dr. Daniel Landers who is a professor in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
