Two new reports show that rural American obesity rates are climbing higher than those of their metropolitan counterparts. Statistically, 40 percent of rural men are obese while nearly half of women are. The reports show that the trend extends to children as well.

Aaron Kelly, PhD, co-director of the Center for Pediatric Obesity Medicine told CBS News in an interview, "These kids with severe obesity really need to have access to specialized medical care to treat their obesity, in the form of weight management services. The severity of the disease makes it such that it can't be effectively treated in the primary care environment."
