Dr. Michael Howell, Department of Neurology, writes in the Star Tribune arguing that Minnesota should push back school start times to protect students' cognitive development. Adolescents naturally stay up later and sleep in longer as their brains develop. 

"While adolescents sleep, brain connections that number in the trillions are working to master skills ranging from calculus to free throws, while emotional circuits ready themselves for unforeseeable stresses ahead," he writes in the Star Tribune.
