Dr. Macalena joined the University of Minnesota Department of Orthopedic Surgery as an Assistant Professor in 2011. He has a clinical interest in sports medicine and athletic injuries to the knee. Dr. Macalena's specific interests include knee ligament reconstructions, cartilage surgery, meniscus surgery, and joint preservation. He was appointed director of M Health's cutting-edge Cartilage Restoration and Joint Preservation Program in 2019.
