Catalog Description: This course will provide instruction and advanced experience in surgery and its components for the student who has completed their core clerkship in surgery. Students taking this course can expect to participate directly in patient care at a level of responsibility that is similar to a first year intern. The student will work with their assigned team under the supervision of the faculty and will participate fully in the care of hospitalized patients in the operating room and in clinics. Students at the Fairview East Bank may request specific clinical experiences in Emergency General Surgery, Gastrointestinal/Bariatric Surgery, Surgical Oncology, and Thoracic Surgery.

Required session attendance: Does not apply
Typical weekly schedule/Delivery Mode: M-F, 5:30am-5:00pm. Saturday and Sunday may be working days. At-home call is expected Q4, depending on the number of MS4s on service. All hours and schedules are at the discretion of the attending and/or resident on service and may not exceed 80 hours per week.
