Details

Catalog Description:  Academic credit (1 credit per week "non-hands-on") will be awarded for satisfactory completion of a research project at the University of Minnesota Medical School or another LCME-accredited medical school. Students in either the Clinical Immersion or Specialty Specific Transitions phases can take up to 12 weeks of research credit, although the preferred total amount of time is 8 weeks or less. If more than 8 weeks of credit are requested, both the academic advisor and the Director of Clinical Immersion and Transitions must approve. Students should plan to spend 40 hours/week on their project and should have it completed by the end of the period they are registered for.

Note: This course is available for 2, 4, or 8 weeks/credits. Students wishing to complete 6 credits of this course should submit two applications and will receive 2 separate grades for a 4 week period and a 2 week period.

For research at Essentia Health, applications must be submitted at least 6 weeks prior to the start of the period/project. Essentia requires research projects to be scheduled in Clinician Nexus so research at Essentia is treated the same as a clinical rotation for onboarding timeline purposes.

Syllabus

The student must have a research mentor prearranged and submit a short description of the research through the application.  No retroactive credit will be approved.

See consent requirement below for the application and scheduling details.
