New Leadership for the Paul and Sheila Wellstone Muscular Dystrophy Center

We are excited to announce the recruitment of Peter B. Kang, MD as the new Director of the Paul and Sheila Wellstone Muscular Dystrophy Center and Vice Chair of Research for the Department of Neurology. Dr. Kang is currently Chief of the Division of Pediatric Neurology and Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Florida; he will be arriving in February 2021.

Created in 1995, as the Center for Muscle and Muscle Disorders, designated as a Center by the AHC Deans’ Council in 2001, and renamed the Paul and Sheila Wellstone Muscular Dystrophy Center in 2003, the Muscular Dystrophy Center is a national leader in the research, training, and clinical care of neuromuscular diseases.

Dr. Kang’s research focuses on the genetics of limb girdle muscular dystrophy, pediatric neuromuscular disorders, mechanisms of rare muscle diseases, and the development of new therapies for these disorders. His work has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Our sincere thanks to Daniel Garry, MD, PhD for his many years of leadership directing the Muscular Dystrophy Center.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Kang to Minnesota and our Medical School community.
