Step 3
Step 3 is the last of the Step exam sequence and traditionally culminates the residency internship year. While Step 2 emphasizes the initial clinical work-up, Step 3 assesses “what’s next” in implementing treatment plans and care management.
The exam seeks to assess a trainee's readiness to assume independent practice in the coming years. Step 3 is completed in two consecutive testing days and (similar to Step 2) is comprised of MCQ and experiential components.
