Catalog description: Seminars in Native American Health is a longitudinal course. Students will identify and discuss current issues impacting health of American Indian people, including causes of morbidity and mortality. Discussion focuses on solutions to problems in the context of American Indian and Alaska Native communities. The overall goal is for the student to develop a knowledge about health, health care and health disparities as they exist in American Indian/Alaska Native communities as well as potential solutions while gaining an understanding of how to critically evaluate an article for relevance (scientific and cultural), accuracy and means of bias of content. And finally to provide the students with a library of articles that may serve to inform further development of skills and knowledge.
