Medical School Scholarships & Grants

The University of Minnesota Medical School Financial Aid Office administers several scholarship and grant programs to support students on the basis of financial need, academic achievement, academic interests, and/or their non-resident status.

Non-resident tuition scholarships

The University of Minnesota Medical School is committed to attracting a diverse student body.

In order to attract diverse students from a variety of geographic, social, economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds, we recruit students from beyond the borders of Minnesota.

To achieve this goal, the Medical School Admissions Committee may award up to fifteen (15) non-resident tuition scholarships within each entering class of the University of Minnesota Medical School.

  • Equivalent in amount to the non-resident portion of medical school tuition
  • Awarded to high-ability, non-resident, non-reciprocity students
  • Renewed each year until graduation, as long as the student is enrolled full-time and maintains Satisfactory Academic Progress

Criteria:

  • Non-resident, non-reciprocity status
  • Academic achievement and high academic potential
  • Educational disadvantage
  • Financial need
  • Race and ethnicity
  • Evidence of outstanding leadership, creativity, unique work or service experience, community involvement, and special talents

Scholarships and grants for financial need and/or academic achievement and academic interests

The University of Minnesota Medical School awards scholarships and grants to students on the basis of financial need and/or academic achievement and academic interests.

In order to receive any of these scholarships/grants, full-time enrollment and Satisfactory Academic Progress must be maintained.

To be considered for these awards, the Financial Aid Office must have a current Medical Student Scholarship Application on file by March 1. This deadline is waived for new matriculants accepted on or after March 1.

  • University of Minnesota Foundation Scholarships: Awarded by the Medical School Scholarship and Awards Committee** on the basis of academic achievement, academic interests, and financial need
  • Medical School Scholarships: Awarded on the basis of financial need
  • Financial Aid Office Scholarships: Awarded on the basis of financial need
